Braces
Traditional braces are made of brackets and connecting wires. The brackets are cemented onto the teeth in a pattern that will, in conjunction with the wire, adjust your teeth’s positioning over a period of several months to several years. Traditional braces can be a little faster and a better choice in some cases due to the constant forces on the teeth. Braces require good oral hygiene to keep the gums healthy and avoid cavities during the orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Sam Huang has a special interest in orthodontics. He has taken lots of training in conventional braces and Invisalign (clear aligners), and is involved in orthodontics study club for conventional braces and online continued education for Invisalign treatments.
Braces and Invisalign may be recommended for the following reasons and the cost varies based on the complexity of the treatment:
-
Crowding
-
Overbite
-
Crossbite
-
Underbite
-
Gapping
Invisalign®
Invisalign® consists of sets of clear aligners made specifically for each patient. These aligners gradually move your teeth, with you switching to a new set about every one to two weeks. They require 20-22 hours wear each day for them to work to maximum efficiency, but are taken off when you drink, eat, or brush your teeth. The advantage of clear aligner treatment is that they are easy to remove, to floss and brush, and less visible than traditional braces.
Some cases with severe crowding or severe overbite/overjet will require a more complex treatment plan and a combination of elastics and long treatment time to treat.
