Teeth Whitening

Over time, teeth often become discoloured and stained by food, beverages and tobacco. Professional tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment that can dramatically enhance the beauty of your smile.

In our office, we give patients a take-home whitening kit with instructions and patients follow the simple guide to get the shade they want:

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)

  • Stained teeth due to medications

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth

However, the most common side effect of whitening is teeth may get sensitive to temperature. For your best comfort, take a break for a few days between each whitening.

Composite Veneers/Bonded Veneers

A tooth-colour filling material can be used to repair front teeth that have had decay, chips, cracks, gaps, discolouration, and wear. These materials are made of a composite resin that is very durable, and can be precisely placed, shaped and polished to leave a long-lasting and beautiful smile. It is more conservative (less teeth grinding) and more economical for the patient. However, if you are a  heavy smoker or coffee drinker, they may get stained regularly and need to be polished routinely. This treatment depends a lot on dentist artistry, as everything is completed chair-side, with no laboratory fabrication. In general, it is a less costly option than Porcelain Veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is an ultra-thin, durable, tooth-shaped porcelain shell that covers the front side of the tooth. Veneers can improve the appearance of teeth that are permanent. They are custom made in a dental laboratory, then bonded onto the front of your teeth to create a durable, beautiful and attractive smile. Porcelain veneers do last longer and stain less, but will require dental lab work and some more tooth structure removal.

Your dentist or dental hygienist may recommend veneers for the following reasons:

  • Create a beautiful, white smile

  • Fix crooked teeth

  • Reshape teeth

  • Correct uneven or unwanted spaces

  • Repair chipped or worn teeth

Bioclear Method (Gap, black triangle closure)

Bioclear

The Bioclear Matrix system, developed by Dr. David Clark, has changed the course of dental restorations by bringing a new dimension to aesthetics and function through cutting edge procedural advances. Bioclear Matrix is a clear advancement in the dental industry offering more affordable options with superior results with very minimal teeth structure removal. Indications for use:

  • Small space (diastema) closure in front teeth, no tooth structure removal needed

  • Black triangle (space between front teeth due to gum recession), no tooth structure removal required

Traditionally, a dentist requires grinding the teeth down or gum surgery just to close the space, which is very invasive and has a high degree of relapse. With the Bioclear technique, minimally invasive dentistry is used and long-lasting results can be achieved. Bioclear technique can also be used with composite build-ups, such as composite veneer with very minimal tooth structure removal to close unwanted gaps.
